I have looked for days and can't find software to crop an image and
maintain what ever it is that need to be maintained so Canon's
CameraWindow software will upload the image back to the media in the
camera. I have a Canon Powershot Pro 1 and the software that was
bundled with it is a toy. I'm just looking to upload an edited image.
Does anyone have firsthand experience with any software that will do
this? I'm already aware of hundreds for vendor that will not so please
just suggest those that will do this.

I would be interested to know whether my TVwriter software does this - it
works for many models in the Canon range:

If it works would you give me a registration code for 'beta testing' it
for you? My time is valuable too. That's why I ask for software that is
known to work.

You can download and test the software without needing a beta code.
Alternatively, if you wish, I can send sample processed images which you
can test with your Canon software. I suggest you write to me directly at
the address on my Web site.

Put the card in a card reader, work on the image with the software of
your choice, then save it. What's the big deal? You probably won't be
able to view the modified image with your camera, but why bother anyway?
What are you trying to achieve here?

Zoombrowser will upload an image. If you have modified the image, that might
be a problem. Not sure what that might be but is exif data still intact?
Start with an unmodified picture and experiment from there.

For example, you can use the camera as a highly-portable slide-show
device - just plug it into a TV.

Dave Cohen,
I have used Zoombrowser and uploaded back to the camera/compact flash.
But Zoombrowser must remove or change the exif data if I make anything
more than minor changes to the image. I can edit color, saturation,
brightness and contrast. If I crop the image or add text it fails.
However I have an application that may work. It's called Cam4you and
it claims to work specifically with my Pro1.

Well after a little research and testing the ONLY program I found to do
this (as well as many other functions) was the Cam4you version 5.0.0B2
software. And it's freeware! At $20 for registration it's still a
bargain. I'm so impressed with this software I can't believe Canon
hasn't contact Hans-David Alkenius, the developer, to incorporate this
into their Zoombrowser utility.
The root of the site also has quit a lot of other useful information,
http://jpegclub.org/. In particular, a list of applications that have added functionality for
a Lossless jpegtran feature developed by the group, which can be found
at http://jpegclub.org/losslessapps.html.

Neil,
You apparently have no concept of what freeware is about or the effort
put forth by individual developers to create applications such as this
for the general public.

I have! Freeware is free, software you pay for is shareware of commercial.
