G'day everyone,
I would like everones advise on this popular question.
What would be better and last longer. Im like everyone else i love to play games at max settings bla bla bla. I only have a sinlge display 23' screen and i wont be getting another one either. Also im only after a single card,, im not going to go SLI or anything so please dont mention that. I have read heaps about people different opinions like SLI 570's are better bang for your buck so to speak. And im aware that 3g of ram is only really usufull with multi displays. So basically i have the money to afford waht i want however the boss (wife) will only let me get one card (for now im working on her leeting me get 2 so i can go SLI) So for a single screen set up would an SC 580 be better than a 590? thx in advance for ur help.

590 should be considerably faster than an overclocked 580. 2x 570 is a better deal, though. It's similar performance for less money. Just tell your wife, "I can spend $600 or I can spend $700, what do you prefer?" She'll want you to spend $600, so get 2x 570. She may think 2 cards are overkill, but it's still cheaper and faster. If she doesn't understand that, I can't help you out.

I think 2x 6970 is a better buy, but if you're an Nvidia guy, get the 570s. If you're not an Nvidia guy, wait until the 7970s come down in price or 7950s are released. 7970 falls between 590 and 580. 7950 will probably be comparable to 580. Me personally, I'm waiting to see if 7870s are comparable to 6970s for less than $300 each and then grabbing a pair.

+1 for kepler.
meanwhile, gtx 560 ti are gtx 570 still quite capable for single display and should help you hold out till kepler. imo 580 and 590 (got phased out afaik) aren't worth buying right now.
according to rumors, kepler could be pcie 3 cards.
