New system with a Athlon 1700 on a K7T Turbo Limited MoBo. Three memory slots for a total of 1.5 Gig of RAM (PC133). With one memory stick of 512Meg the system works great. When I put a second stick in it crashes on boot-up. Is this because of a memory limit in Win89SE or because I bought cheap memory (or a bad memory stick)?

It might be a bad stick, but try something first. Install Cacheman 5. This gets around the 512MB RAM problem of Win9x systems. Run the wizards to configure your system optimally.

If this doesn't work, it might just be a bad stick. But, if possible, I would really recommend upgrading to Windows 2000 or XP. They are more stable, and they'd use your memory much better than Windows 98. So, if you can get your hands on a copy, keep your other 512MB stick, and see if upgrading to a better Windows OS will solve your problem.
