A zoom lens is a lens that allows you to change the focal length.
If you're interested in wide angle shots of the baseball stadium
showing the field and stands and spectators, then you want a wide
angle zoom. The Canon 17-40mm zoom lens would be great wide angle
zoom for this.
If you want close up shots of the players taken from the stands you
need a telephoto zoom. One with a maximum focal length of 300 - 400 mm
I use the Canon EF 100-400mm lens for this kind of stuff. It's a
great telephoto zoom for outdoor use.
What kinds of shots will you be taking.. Wide angle or Telephoto ?
What's your budget.. Is it over or under $1000.00.
(If you want a good telephoto lens for indoor concert use, you
had better be willing to pay over $1000.00 :-)
