If your motherboard is one of those "touchy" ones that will not accept a pcie 2.1 card then you'll have to limit your gpu to a pcie 2.0 (the same as your mobo slot). The memory of the card has no bearing on the type of memory on your mobo or vice-versa. If it did they wouldn't make gddr5 cards 'cause you can't buy ddr5 ram (yet!) :)

    Looks like the specs on the mobo only call out support for pcie 2 no mention of support of pcie 2.1
    and yes I did updaTE THE BIOS
