For a system that will NOT be overclocked, is there any advantage of using a Core i5 3450 vs a Core i5 2500K ? It will be for 20 computers in a classroom . The most demanding program that will be run is probably Adobe Premiere Elements.
Why is the 3450 faster ? The data I have on the 2500K Operating Freq is 3.3Ghz and the 3450 is 3.1Ghz. I have been getting recommendations to go for the 2500K but I hesitate to build 20 machines using older technology. Especially if the older technology is more expensive. Operating in a classroom environment we will definitely not overclocking but I would still like to get the best performance for my dollar.
not only would the i5 3450 be more efficient but it also does it using less power.
the only advantage an i5-2500k would have w/o being overclock is if you were building on a 6 series chipset (z68, H67, H61). you would need a BIOS upgrade to use an ivy chip.
