back in October 2010.

Everything was working fine, until last week. I started receving random screen distortions that would start at first looked like with the interent web. Yet video games were working. I thought might be some kind of mal/spy/virus possbily so I did all my scans found nothing. I got tired said meh and formatted.

After formatting, I installed newest video drivers and continued on. It occured again, and now it somtimes occurs in games and just opening different windows.

From here I did the following:

- Ran memtest86+ (passed)
- Ran prime95 (passed)
- updated my mobo drivers (doubt this would be the problem since occured before and after a format randomly almost 1.5 years later)

I'm guessing it is a video card issue. I will get a screen grab next time it occurs but it's like the picture because distorted and it's all little squares.

Any help would be great.

When I try and take a print screen paint shows it as black when this is occuring I will have to take a iphone image of the actual monitor and upload.

Do any of these issues surface while using the computer in Safe mode? If so, you have a faulty graphics card.

Hey Spieler,

I will try this out.

I will tell you have tried the following:

I switched from one DIVX port to the other on the back (still occured). Then I swapped monitors, took my 20 inch from my other PC and placed here. Then took the 24 inch and put it on my weaker machine. Currently i have no had the issue once the 20 inch was attached.

However I have not seen the issue on the other machine connected to the 24inch.

This makes this very confusing, i know monitors are different but have you any ideas what could cause that? only thing i can think of his HZ both i set both to 60 currently and no issue on either machine.

I really do not want to use a 20 inch on my main computer. However I do not have enough proof to show if it's the monitor.

I will swap back monitors and run up the machine in safe mode and check, however if the monitor is the issue it could still occur in safemode couldn't it?

Okay So after a Night of testing, I can not get the issue to occur with the 20 inch connected to the XFX card machine. 20 Inch runs at 1620x1200 and 60 Hz. The 24 inch runs at 1920x1200 60hz.

I found under catalsyt 2 check boxes that says reduces courrption with using high res. I selected the one that was not selected by default and tried again with the 24 inch. The 24 inch when loading "League of legends" (not a high end game). Started rolling the image down like a slot machine effect. When game loaded the machine had one image of the game and another sliding down across with a white line. I swapped monitors while this occured which caused the game to crash (res switch). Then reloaded the game. The game showed no issues.

I'm really stumped if this is a video card or monitor problem. Since the 24 inch monitor hooked to a weaker video card/PC causes no problems at all.

do you have VSync enabled in league of legends? or is vsync forced on in CCC? It would be worth a try to disable Vsync on the disfunctional monitor

I have done a lot of testing over the weekend. I found out that it was the video card. After testing for about 6-7 hours i finally got it to occur on the 20 inch monitor. From there I tried resetting the card, got it to occur again. Then swapped out for my old not so good card now the issue never happens on either monitor.

Good job on your troubleshooting, just a shame it was your video card. On the bright side, now you have an excuse to upgrade!
