7970 vs 6970 vs 580

building a new computer.please suggest which GPU can take full load at max settings and please specify what those settings are

Should be able to play the best games,for example:

Crysis 2
Battlefield 3
Rage
Metro 2033
Dirt 3
Batman Arkham City
Skyrim





Also other features like:

GPU acceleration
Dual Display
3D





Questions:

1)does gtx 580 not do dual display as i have heard it needs SLI?

2)is the gap between CUDA and App that big,hasn't 7970 done any better?

3)who does better 3D and what are 3D tech's involved like passive and active? - i might buy passive 3d display from lg

the radeons support eyefinity which allows for multimonitor gaming on 1 card and I'd say the 6970 should be enough but the 7970 is a beast of a card.

7970 or GTX590 would be my choice.

6850 can max. both Rage and Dirt3.
Skyrim is very badly coded and probably need 6GHz CPU to max. without lag (huge CPU eater but only uses 2 cores).

6970 is ~GTX570
7970 is ~30% faster than GTX580
So 7950 will probably be ~GTX580 performance.

If you care about power consumption and frames/watt go for 7970 or 7950. As 7970 uses the ~same watts as 6970 but is ~50% faster.

I own a I7 2600 -4ghz with a 1.5gb Inno3d GTX580 and based on my personal experience I can run all the following games at 1080p with max settings with none/minimal lag: (including physx, vsync and aa/af on) (I don't run 3d however)

Dirt 3
Batman Arkham City
Skyrim
Dirt 3

It is an extremely fast GPU. Please note however that Metro 2033 to run properly appears to need top end Sli or crossfire to run it completely maxed out.

Please be aware that I'm not necessarily saying to choose one over the other, they all very fast cards, just thought I'd share my experience with the 580

Wait for other 7970 with aftermarket coolers . GTX 580 would support to 2 Monitors at the same game max, except SLIed or GTX 590 which is dual GTX 580. Where 7970 is faster and support eyefinity which support 3 monitors natively .
