I have heard for example that a certain power supply rated as lets say 1000 watts, would not work well with connectors that for example go to 250 watts. How do I make sure that everything works with everything else. What are your recommendations?

What you are hearing is fear mongering. You don't have to worry about this. Components that draw alot of current have connectors designed to handle that current. It's a basic rule.

Thank you for the response. So as far as all the connectors even coming off of the power supply, I don't have to worry. They are all made properly? Is this correct?

there are ul codes and us codes for the size the cable must be (gauge awg) to handle the load that going to be on the wires.
