Ok, I need help with this if someone is willing to take the time to :)

I have an HP computer and it has onboard(8mb) video. I've bought four video cards in the last month or so and none of them worked any better then this 8mb onboard, which is kind of odd. I bought a ATI All-In-Wonder 128 16mb PCI, ATI Xpert 98, some TNT card and a ATI Radeon SDR 32mb PCI card, now I would think that the radeon especially would be at least like 3 times better then my onboard video. Sure, it played quake3 alright but maybe 20fps and I play quake2 alot and I got 50fps in the LOWEST resolution, I get that much with the onboard. So my question pretty much is why ain't these video cards working? now someone told me I might have to disable the onboard video which I didn't do with any of the cards I bought, so could that be the problem why these video cards aren't working right? Also I have no AGP slot and I don't remember seeing anything to disable the onboard in the BIOS, I know you can change the mb's it uses and I did change it from 8mb to 2mb I believe once and the computer wouldnt boot right after that. Anyhow, enough rambling... someone post and help me out here I need to play games with some decent graphics :)

Alright, first off let me say that the next time you ask for help like this it would be nice to know what your systems exact specs are (exp. CPU MHz,Ram...), however on the flip side I think that I recognize your system. Sounds to me like it is somewhere in the 400-550MHz and probably has 64MB of Ram. Well the first thing is that these systems do not require having the onboard video card shut off, its automatic. Next thing is that games like Q2 and UT are a CPU driven game, thats not to say that your video card will not effect the performance of the game but the more CPU power that you have the more FPS youll have in these types games. Another thing is that those Games can only do as much as they were programed to be able to do, and some of them will not go any higher than the top 3D cards could do when they were released. I know you probably have a friend that gets a better FPS then you do so what I would look at is which one of those 4 cards you like the best stick with it and then try to upgrade your CPU and RAM.

Ya, my cpu is 500mhz k6-2 and I have 128mb ram (120 because of the onboard) I do see what your saying but don't you think a ATI Radeon SDR 32mb PCI card would do better then 50fps in software mode in the lowest resolution? I mean, my onboard right now don't work with opengl and the radeon did, but still I had like a 80 ping when I was hosting a game in opengl with the radeon. I know k6-2's arent the best, there actually quite crappy now, hah. So I see what your saying, the computers at a local trading card shop are 800mhz and are running on TNT2 cards and play just about any game fine. Thanks for posting, I've posted this at 2 message boards and your the only one who has replied :)
