Hello everyone I have a silencer 410 dell-2 psu bought from power & cooling about 4 yrs ago. Last night we had several power cuts with electrics switching on and off quite a few times. Following morning pc tower would not switch on. Temporarily connected original dell psu for a second or two and it booted. I could only do this quick test because of the loadings of my grahphics card sound card etc. Is the silencer 410 easily repairable? If so what component is the likely to have failed hear? (what am I looking for). Will I have to buy a replacement from the U.S? Many thanks in advance for any help or advice given.
Regards Darren

Switching power supplies are not typically easier to repiar and can even be dangerous if you are not familiar with electronics. Best bet is to just buy a new one.

best to not repair them

throw away and buy another

depending on how they are made there can be a lot of charge still in there in the form of capacitors with more than enough charge to kill you

I bought my last one from pcpower&cooling. My original psu thats part of my dell dimension 8300 is only 250w continous, and since I have upgraded. 400gig hard drive. 7 channel creative media sound card, geforce 7600gs for graphics 4 gb of ram and dvd rewrite. Will the psu be sufficient for my needs. Just to give you an Idea of the dell psu.

yes , if its still in decent working condition. The capacitors and stuff inside will still age and not perform up to spec even while sitting on a shelf.
Good luck.

Thanks popatim for your advice.. Really appreciate it, I will try it and let you know how I get on. I would like to get one with a little bit more handling with a quieter running fan. My old psu which has now been discontinued was really quiet. Any suggestion where I could purchase an alternative psu in the uk for my ageing pc.

Thanks again Daz
