PC takes several tries to boot

My Pc,Asus P5N32-E sli Socket 775- Windows 7 Home 32 bit, it having trouble booting up. I hear all the correct sounds, beeps etc. as if it were loading but I have a black screen. I ususally wait several minutes to make sure all has been loaded (red blinking light) and I hit the restart button. Sometimes it will load 2nd try, sometimes 8th try. I do no know what to do or how to check problems?

If you try taking the battery out on the motherboard for a few minutes and putting it back in, do you still get the same problem?

■Have you added/subtracted any hardware?
■Did the problem just start, or did it slowly get worse?
■You might try Event Viewer > Custom Views > Administrative Events (win 7) and see if there is an error message.
