What would be the best GPU for this computer? I use my computer to play an mmo called Aion and pretty soon when Guild of wars 2 comes out, i hope to play that as well. Which graphics card would I be ok with if i want to play max settings or would i need a new cpu? ram? thanks in advance.

First off depending on what type of Power Supply (PSU) size and brand and your budget will have the say in what type of GPU you can use. Well your PSU is a 250w but it doesn't tell us if it is two 12v rails or one and the amps.

Lets asume you are good to go with a GT 430 and that is on the Nvidia side. Now on the AMD side maybe one of the 5xxx series. I don't have enough experence in the AMD side to give you the exact number.

The AMD side make the better GPU's on the low end as Nvidia makes a better on the high end in my opinion. If we had the numbers that are on the PSU we could be more on the spot of knowing for sure what card you could get.

I'd say get a new computer if you want to game, the sempron is really going to slow you down if you want to do any serious gaming.

Ya he is right on getting a new system but if you can't afford one then you are stuck with what you have. I don't want ot kill your joy but the Compaq has a bad rep about it and I know first hand I had one. There nick name is ComCrap.

Inside your computer where you plug the power into on the gray box is a label that tell you the Info of how much volts go into the PSU and how much it put out.

All PSU's are required to have that on them. You should be able to see the label. But sometimes you can't. I will try to track down your PSU but you would save me the time if you can see it. Let me know and tomorrow I will get on it.

Try Cyberpower.com and play around with building your own rig

whats your budget? you can get a system for $300 that will be a lot better than a gpu upgrade and more money doesn't hurt either.

if you don't have that much you might be stuck with it, your best bet is a 5450 or 6450 on the AMD side since your psu is very low, its not really worth buying a new one either.

He'd still need to give an estimate. he can go on dell.com and see what he can buy but he can also try putting on together himself.

I agree with esrever.

@esrever I was not going to suggest an up grade on the PSU. I was just looking for the amps on the 12v rail to see if he can even get a GPU. With that system it is not worth the up grade other than a miner GPU.

@OP sorry I forgot you are building for your friend.

he can get a very nice one for that price.

960t or i3 -$130
cheap mobo - $100
8 gb ddr3 - $50
500 watt good psu - $60
case - $60
6870 - $150
500gb hdd- $70
windows 7 - $100

about $750, would make a very nice gaming computer, you can find all the parts on newegg. It would be a lot cheaper than getting a prebuilt one but you can shop arround and see.
