Hey guys im doing my first custom build and I have decided all my components but don't know how much psu watt I will need.

Components (I'm a student so I don't have unlimited amounts of cash)

Cm storm enforcer
8gb skill ripjaw 1333
Phenom ii x4 960t
Asus sabretooth 990fx
Powercolor hd radeon 6870
12x speed Blu ray drive
24x DVD writer
500gb sg barracuda hdd

Do I need a 750w or would a 650 be ok?

Thanks

650 will work.... but if you are planning on xfire at some point in the future, 750W min. better to spend the extra $20 or so now, then have to buy a new video card and PSU in the future. just a suggestion.

Also, get a quality PSU... i like Corsair. its the heart of the system. if it goes, it can take out all the other components as well...

Go with this setup instead:

- Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... - Asrock Extreme 3 Gen 3 - $121.99
- CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... - 3.1GHz Intel Core i5-2400 - $189.99

That will run circles around the AMD Phenom II 960T any day of the week. It may run a little more than what you have already but it shouldn't much.

I will also definitely reiterate what was said about the PSU - do not skimp or compromise on it, the wrong one can quite literally blow up in your face - I've had that happen on a couple of occasions and I'm really picky about the PSUs I've chosen as a result.

I would go with G-units recommendations. AMD is out of it in regards to CPUs... Theyre better in the GPU now giving Nvidia a run but intel has them soundly beat in the CPU market.

newegg runs promotions almost daily with i5's on there... hit it just right and you'll be fine.
