Agreed, your P4 won't let you do anything beyond really a 5770, and even there your are wasting some money. I like the 5750 idea.

for your cpu this card will be good and you can get 20% more performance then the hd 6670 but the only fact is that your psu have a 6 pin pcie connector or not?

or if u not have an 6 pin pcie connector then go for an hd 6670

Is the nvidia gtx 550 ti good for my pc?

pc specs:
intel p4 ht 3ghz
1gigs ram ddr2
pcie1.0 x16
1024*768 res,

will it work? if not suggest some similar powerful cards( not pcie2.1) only pcie 2.0
like geforce gt 440 ,gt240,hd series by radeon about $110

please help me?

first of all your cpu will definitely holding back the card. secondly most of recent games out there need at least dual core processor to get decent performance. from my personal experience upgrading my 3.0ghz P4 to 2.93 core 2 duo almost double my frame rates when paired with the very same gpu (the gpu in use is nvidia 9600GSO which i believe have comparable performance to GT240).

for your resolution GT240 still have acceptable performance but i believe your major concern was your processor not your gpu. but if you don't have the money right now to build a new rig i suggest you to get GT240 or something with similar performance to it

I had a P4 3.2 GHz with a 9600GT, and so I upgraded to a Pentium D 945 (I had a Dell computer and the Pentium D was the furthest it would let me go) and I got at LEAST 50% more FPS in each of my games. It was pretty amazing the performance difference between the two.

Now I have a Quad Core system with an outdated GTX 460.
