buffer under-run

I'm having buffer under-run problems in nero 5.048.

I get about a quarter of the way thru an on-the-fly CD copy, and the hard drive lights up. Over the next minute I watch the buffer dwindle steadily to zero. Then the burn fails, and the hard drive light goes out.

My burner is slave to the hard drive. I am writing from a DVD drive. I am running windows 2000.

any clues?

Have you tried lowering the speed of the burn if you are burning at a high speed?

I could lower the burn, but my PC should be able to cope.
It has burnt plenty of other CDs before without probs.

It seems clear that the hard drive activity is directly effecting the burn. However I can't see any reason why the hard drive would be accessed....

Did you try putting the burner on the same cable as the DVD drive? BTW, I am assuming you are using IDE drives.

Nero hates adeptec. Cdrwin will coexist with nero and adeptec. NTI likes adeptec, but not nero. I know of nothing that does not hate directcd.

So you can use adeptec and cdrwin together, or nero and cdrwin together.

1st - Have you enabled DMA mode for all your units?
2nd - What are you trying to copy?
