hi i have the xps 400 PC i was recently playing black ops when i noticed when my fps was at 30 - 25 instead of 40(max) and today it dropped to 21 - 12 FPS. not only black ops but many other games including crysis, MW3, and even fable 3, etc.

im getting worried that my PC is gonna give out which if it does ill have to wait for my dad to get a custom PC so i get his hand-me-down xps studio 9000

i haven't touched the settings except only to decrease graphics quality(which still did nothing )

i only recently upgraded to a Pentium 4 Prescott 3.40 GHz w/ HT but that was a while ago(like 5 weeks ago),and i had better even perfect frame rate then
anyone help it be excellent

What was your cpu before? Also not trying to wum but your are trying to play games with a pentium 4. Heck you could have the fastest gpu possible but because the p4 is so slow it would make it better to get something low end like a g210 nvidia gpu.

I don't get why people play games with p4's that are new and have recent gpu's like the 240. In essence your p4 3.4ghz is like a car that does 10mpg top speed 30mph and handles rubbish as the architecture is rubbish and looks like an old car while anything core 2 duo or the pentium dual core and up do lets say 200mph+ have 30mpg and can go through corners 4x the speed etc.

In essence a 115w p4 these days 3.5w cpu's equal them. 17w dual cores are like 5-10x faster. Its actually funny people use p4's for gaming. In essence using a p4 today is like using a pentium 1 for gaming in 2005 with lets say somehow compatible top end gpu. It will just run like a slideshow.

My laptop acer 5930g which is 4 years old with a basic p7350 cpu and mid range 9600m gt consumes less electricity to run the whole cpu probably 1/4 to run then your system yet it will perform about 5x faster in games then your desktop because my cpu is a lot faster despite it being designed to be as slow and as power efficient as possible by undervolting and being the slowest p series core 2 duo.

sorry i should have closed this thread, i just built a new system cuz that one finally gave out with an epic memory leak so i spent my spare 400$ on sandybridge I5 and a ASRock z77 extreme 4 with vengeance 8gb and a CM elite 430 midtower all fine now
