Hello,
I was playing FF14 on my pc and the pc jjust suts down. It didnt sound like a blow-out and there was no pop nor any smoke or smell. It just turns completely off and now it wont turn back on. Ive tried to plug it into other outlets to make sure it wasnt that specific outlet. Nothing works so i'm thinking its the power supply. Any ideas?

More about : power

Hello,

Sounds like your going in the right direction. A bad powersupply can cause a computer to not start up.

Do you have a spare one PSU, or could you borrow one from a friend to test out?

Is this a pre-built like a dell or your own? What brand of powersupply do you currently have?

+1^
It may have simply blown the line fuse inside the PSU case. But you would have to break the seal to open the PSU case if that is a problem for you.

This just happened to me today too. Built it 2 days ago and everything was running good until it just died. I still have lights on my usb external hard drives, but it won't do anything. I tried the paperclip test (with and without load) and it failed.

If jumpering the green and black wire on the 24 pin motherboard connector didn't allow the PSU to start, it probably has failed. (or blown its fuse) Can you still RMA it?

Yes. I had just purchased it through Newegg last week and still within their 30 day RMA window. I had to pay shipping, but they gave me a full refund, and the price for another one had dropped a bunch since I bought it last week. In fact, it dropped so much that the savings pay for the cost of shipping.

That doesn't happen very often! Takes some of the sting out, anyway.

You may want to buy a VOM meter if you build very often.
Or even a PSU tester... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...
