umm
AMD Phenom II X4 805 @ 2.5 Ghz
8 Gb of RAM
1 TB HDD
550W PSU
200$ or so (depending on what i can get for my GTS 450 on craigslist 200$ being W.O sale of card)

was never really big on playing battlefield 3 and stuff like that on a PC but when i do run stuff i wanna run on max settings....

i had another post about upgrading my CPU but they told me a GPU upgrade would be bigger bang for buck and my CPU doesnt really need upgraded that much

they were hellbent of me buying a radeon 6870....
i seen a guy selling a Asus Radeon HD 6950 for 250$ which i can talk him down none the less find that card on ebay for 200$ but its no longer listed on newegg

The thing is that you don't want to go too high with the video card or the other components will bottleneck the video cards performance. If you want to get the 6950 and put that in your Pc it would be a tremendous increase over what you have. The power supply will be good enough for the card.

was goign to upgrade my CPU from my phenom II 805 2.5 ghz to....
AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition 3.7GHz Socket AM3 Quad-Core Desktop Processor - OEM
45 nm Deneb 125W
6MB L3 Cache
4 x 512KB L2 Cache

but they told me i could and it would make a difference but being that im running a gts 450 id see a bigger difference in upgrading to my GPU with their advice to a radeon 6870

I agree the 6950 would be the biggest one to go with and even then you might get into a little bottlenecking on some games. I just depends if they are GPU bound.

Your CPU is better then some but its on the going out of style side. You should be able to get the 6950 anywhere and you can get it for around 200 with rebates. Try amazon.com or tigerdirect.com. I wish you the best on this.

A bottlenecking happens when the components are not balanced and one of them holds back the perfomance because it can't process the data as fast as the rest of the components. So if you had a real fast video card and a slow cpu then the cpu would bottleneck the data flow. With gameing the biggest performance increase is going to be with a video card. So if you can get a 6950 then do so and if the 6950 that is for a good sale price happens to be the 2gb version it won't make any difference to you it's the price that does.
