Hi. I have an Acer Aspire AS5740G-6979. Last night the drained out while plugged in. I found out and then plugged it in to boot it up, and it refused to charge.
I figured it was broken. I messed around with it. I took the cord that goes from the wall to the power supply and plugged it into a different power supply for a different computer and it worked fine. The light on the power supply however would not come on. I eventually decided it must be broken and I'd just have to get a new cord.
Then a couple of hours later, in one last attempt I plugged the computer in and... Blam. It started charging and working again.
I used it this morning no problem. Then I went to work and it stopped again. I've plugged it in, unplugged it, switched the wall-to-power-supply cord several times with the other computer I have. Still no dice. At this point I'm pretty sure it's dead in the water.
The difficulty I'm having is buying a new power cord. I looked up "Acer charger cord" and "AS5740G-6979 charger cord" and I got different hits for them. Specifically the ones that list "AS5740G-6979" are quite a bit more expensive.
Looking at their voltage, hz, etc it seems that they have all the same stats. The difference then is the plug maybe? But would Acer really change their plug from model to model?
So is it possible for me to get the cheaper one even if it doesn't specifically say that its for my model?
