My brother is willing to upgrade is GPU but he is short on budget. He hopes to be able to run BF3 on medium setting with no AA as an eyefinity or 3Dsurround set-up.

His current set-up is an i5-2500k, some gigabite mobo with 2 GPU slots, 2x 4GB RAM and windows7.

Current GPU is an old 9600 GT and his budget is realy low.

He hope to buy a single 6870 then a second one in 3-4 months but would it be a good idea ?

A 6870 for EyeFinity? It should work but don't expect very high performance, you should get ~40Fps at medium settings with EyeFinity (3x 1600x900 screens). At 1080p EyeFinity with that card, it would lag a little. (~25Fps) You should buy an better GPU (like the HD 6970) to get better performance for EyeFinity.

Hope it helps! :)

Well actualy it would be 2x 6870 for a 5760x 1080p on medium with no AA.

The closest benchmark I've found so far is on ultra setting no AA :http://media.bestofmicro.com/X/L/320025/original/BF3%20...

A single 6970 have only 22fps min but my guess is at 30fps + min for medium setting.

Now is that 2x 6870 beat a single 6970 ?

He just can't afford 2x 6970 this year.

That benchmark is at Ultra, most games have a huge difference between High and Ultra, the same applies for Low to Medium... Lets say you get 50Fps in high, at ultra you will probably get 19Fps...

Yes, two 6870 beat a single 6970. (~50% better performance)
