What is the price difference between the 2550 and the 2500? And is 100ghz in speed gain worth it (keep in mind you'll also be losing the IGPU that the 2500k has)? If your old (but still fine) GPU goes you've got nothing without the IGPU.

He can OC the 2500k to equal the 2550k and the loss of the integrated graphics on the processor probably isn't worth it.

If they don't want to bother with OCing and have an extra video card laying around (somewhat likely given its an upgrade), it probably doesn't matter much, though.
