I have asked this queston several times, but no answers yet. I have three
User Accounts shown in the CP > User Accounts. My account is shown as (my
name) Computer Administrator, Password Protected & then other accts that I
have set up. In Window's Explorer all of my folders are under the Owner
Acct. (MyDocuments, ect.). (I understand now that I should not have used the
"Owner" acct.) The (my name) folders are under "Default Acct". I don't know
how or when this acct was established?? I have changed the name (my name) on
my acct (Owner) a few times trying to figure this out. It did read Owner at
one point. My question is how am I logging in now? It seems like I am
logging into the Default Acct., but all My Documents, ect are still under
Owner. Task Manager shows No Users. It used to show "Owner".
Run>USERPASSWORDS2 shows the accts I set up, Owner, Computer Administrator
and ASPNET, no (my name)?? Also what is ASPNET? That was not always in
there.

Somebody did answer part of my question before. This is NOT the Window's
"built-in" User according to a script that was provided to me. I have always
had my computer set to show hidden files, so this "Default" Acct. should
have always been visable. I have looked in Event Viewer. Don't understand
it much, but there are a lot of failure entries for the Owner logon.
Everything under the User is N/A. Any help appreciated. I just don't get
it. :(

You are babbling around a mess that you have created...

The only thing that counts is what is in "Local Users and Groups" >
"Users"...that can be gotten to by right clicking on "My Computer", either
on your desktop or in the start menu. Clean that up...ie delete all, except
the administrator and the guest account.

Next cleanup the registry...all of your past a present users are there under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\... the S-1-5-18, S-1-5-19 and S-1-5-20
accounts are needed for windows to work, so do not touch them. The
S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxx accounts are the ones listed in
CP or deleted accounts. You have one of two choices here...because I am
explaining this to you, I suggest that you delete the whole S-1-5-21-...
folders, except the administrator account, and start all over again. The
other option is to edit the information here to what you want it to be...I
don't think that you have the computer savey to accomplish this option, that
is why I suggested the former.

As Confusion say..."Rots of Ruck!"

I got lost trying to follow your description but have a tip that may help
you sort this out:

If you type %userprofile% into Start> Run, Windows Explorer will open a
folder window - the main folder for the account that you are currently
logged on with.

Ok, Thank you. I am still logged in under Owner, which is fine. I just
don't know where this "Default Acct" came from. An extra account which
somehow was created & the (My Documents, etc) has my name on them, the name
which shows when I login (which is actually the Administrator/Owner Acct, the
one I always use). Nothing ever goes into the Default Acct. It just looks
like another user account, only it is called "Default" & it is a hidden
folder. This Default User does not appear in CP, My Computer,
CONTROLUSERPASSWORDS2 or anywhere else. Seems weird. This Default Account
just mysteriously appeared by itself in Window's Explorer and does not appear
anywhere else. It is like this Default Acct and the Owner Acct are somehow
intermingled. I know I probably screwed this all up. I am trying to figure
out a way to fix it w/o starting over. Thank you again for your input.

I am well aware that I caused this "mess". My "babbling" was an effort to
make things clear. I don't have an Administrator or Guest Acct in My
Computer. I have some knowledge of the registry & have made changes in the
past. However, you are right, I am not "computer savey" enough to make the
changes you are suggesting. I will continue to research. I am just having a
hard time understanding the whole XP concept with User Accounts. Thank you.

Yes, this is normal. "Default User" is a template account. It is used as a
base. Create a new account and Default User supplies the basics. Then the
"trimmings" of All Users and the individual's preferences are added to
create a "total profile experience."

Nothing in your post told me what the default account was.

"Default User" is not a user account you can use to logon on with,
actually, it is not a user account at all, you are seeing the folder
structure that is used as a template for all new user accounts that
is created on the computer (all the files/folders under "Default User"
will be copied to the new user's profile folder.

Then you are logged in as Owner still.

Thank you. Understand ASPNET now & I understand that what appears to be a
Default Acct is a really a template. So as I understand it, when I change
the name of my (Owner) Acct in CP, to say XXX this change is reflected under
the Default Acct Template's directory as XXX's Documents, etc. in Window's
Explorer because I have always used the Owner Acct from the beginning & never
really set myself with a User Acct. Am I on the right track?

NO!!! You are biting off more than you can chew. Take smaller bites.

you have missed the boat compleatley...again.

Yes, the "default user" is a like a template.

No, if you change something in an egsiting account, the default user account
has nothing to do with your changes at this point...and nothing will change
in it the way you describe what you are doing.

Patty I am having the same problem, I guess during set up microsoft asked for
our names, and they used our names as a base for the user acct. All of that
nothing that the others have typed, which is pointless has not solved the
problem. I looked a C:/, document and settings, and I see my name and All
users, and another user acct I tried to create. I tried to delete the one
with my name and it did not work. I hope maybe you won't feel like it is only
your problem. Maybe someone with some real knowledge will help you and I.

When you tried to delete the acct with your name, had you logged on to
another admin acct, then went into Control Panel > User Accounts >
Picked "acct with your name" > Delete the account ?
