My 1st post. I am about to build a video editing system for Adobe CS5.5. Thinking about an I7 2600 and a z68 Mobo. Will not play a single game. Questions I have are:

1. Do I need a dedicated video card? If yes, any cheap one you can recommend.

2. If I use 2 or 3 SSD's, where will I get the best bang? Win 7x64? Data files? Scratch disk? Except for the OS SSD, the rest will be on temporary basis. Once the project is complete, I'll copy everything onto HDD's and start new project on blank SSD's.

3. Will a 500W PS be sufficient?

4. Will OC make a difference in video editing? I am planning to use the stock heatsink in a well ventilated Coolermaster case.

Thanks.

1. Yes. Take a look at the graphics card specifically designed for CAD and Video Editing (Would divert you to a place where you can get a graphics card but what country are you from?
2. I'd personally go for 2 SSD and 1x 1TB 7200Rpm Hard Drive or 1 SSD, 1XSDXC 64GB Card (Or above) with a 1TB Hard Drive.
3. 500W should be sufficient.
4. It can make a difference but you wont get far with a stock heatsink.

Thanks, electricfirebolt.

Just went to Adobe site. They do recommend select GTX cards (285, 470, 570).

I am from the US (Dallas area).

Are you suggesting an SDXC card instead of an SSD? Aren't SSD's, costing about the same / GB, much much faster?

So, a water-cooled heatsink maybe? I always have problems installing heatsinks, and so avoid anything non-stock.

Im suggesting the combination of possibly an SSD and a SDXC Cards, the new SDXC cards are respectivley fast.

An 2GB Nvidia Quadro or similar should be suitable. The Nvidia Quadro's etc are designed specifically for CAD and Video Editing.

Thanks for the references.

I am leaning toward I7 2600K, a Z68 MB, 8GB /1600 RAM, and a 600W PS. Will get 2 SSD's. One for the OS (60 GB) and one for Data (120 GB). The OS (Win 7/64) drive will have just Adobe and Office. So, hopefully, 60 GB will be fine.

Have already ordered Antec Nine Hundred case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021). Got a great deal on Adobe CS5.5 Production ($386 Academic).

I am hoping my calculations / choices are good.
