Windows 7 error Network Cable Unplugged

With no apparent change in software or configuration, I am getting the 'Network cable unplugged' error. The cable connects another PC just fine so both the cable and router are OK.

Any ideas?

Have you tried to restart the computer. I know it's obvious . but if you have not .. it's hard to go further .. I have seen this happen to some computers .. and then after restart .. it works fin again.

Yes, there have been restarts and the problem remains.

The Windows troubleshooter has no ideas to offer other than the cable being unplugged.

If the same cable works in another PC, on the same port in the router, and Windows sees the network card, could be a bad pin or something loose in the connection.

New network card is like $15, cheap way to fix things.

I'll try adding a new card. the current NIC is part of the motherboard, but hopefully disabling the non-functioning connection it will be smooth sailing.
