AMD Phenom 1055T 90C ?

Hey I'm running an M4N75TD motherboard with an AMD Pheom 1055T mildly OCed to 3GHZ from 2.8

When I run prime95 the temperature reaches roughly 87C in about 5 minutes. This worries me because most people talk about how their PC's idle at like 20C and are 40-50C under load. I just can't imagine how thats possible as my CPU Temps have never been like that. My CPU idles at about 40-50C. Is this bad?

  1. Way too hot if those temps are accurate. Max safe temp for Phenom IIs is 62c, realistically it can probably handle 70c, but 90.. Take your overclock off, you're cooking your CPU. With my overclock I idle about 40c, and the CPU throttles itself on prime95 at 62c if I run it more than 15 minutes.
  2. what cooler are you using? if on the stock cooler you need something better to overclock with thou I would think 3.0 would be ok on stock.

Regardless of what you have now, you may want to think about getting a new cooler for it. Right now the best bang:buck you can get is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo ($35). If you want to spend some more, some top tier coolers are the Cooler Master TPC812, the Tuniq Tower120 Extreme, and the Noctua NH-D14. These are all noticeably more expensive and noticeably cooler/quieter.
  4. I was able to trade in my 1055T ( purchased for $180) and get a 1045T, which was only $99 and was just 2.7 ghz stock instead of 2.8. It idles at 24 and is at 33C at full load. This is with it overclocked to 3GHZ. LOVING IT
