In the older cards you could not run crossfire with 5000 series cards with 6000series cards. So if I get a 7970 card to play battlefield would I be able to crossfire it with a 6970 or should I buy two 6970'3 since two of them cost the same as a 7970 or about the same. 7970 on sale right now for 339.99 and 7970 is 620.00... what to do what to do?????

Solution
You can only crossfire cards that have the same Graphics core, so 6970 with 6970 and and 7970 with 7970 some versions allow you to crossfire with with the slightly cut down variant of the same core but that's not ideal (e.g 6970 with 6950)

But you can crossfire two 7970. I have seen that. You can not add a 6970 to a 7970. So if I buy a 7970 I can only crossfire it with another 7970 or the other 7000 Series cards when they come availble.
