Sorry if this is a bit of a read. Also I'm 15, and I apologize if I sound really dumb.
I am getting a Radeon 6870 for my Computer. The website says that I need a 'minimum of a 500 watt power supply'

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Does a "Minimum of a 500 Watt Power Supply" mean that it will run fine with 500, or do I need to get a better power supply?
I would like to know because if I'm making such a huge investment on something for my computer I need it to work out the first time, because I wont know what's wrong if it doesn't.

Here are the specs of my computer:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Intel i5-2500K 3.30GHz
8Gb RAM
Resolution:
1360x768

More about : watts recommended

A quality 500W PSU is fine.

Yeah unless you're overclocking the recommended is perfect. make sure it's a quality PSU though.

If you plan on overclocking the 2500k then get an extra 100w, if you plan on overclocking the GPU get another extra 100w, If you plan on running crossfire/sli in the future then throw in another 200w.

Yes
Manufacturers don't know what else is in your case or if you are using a cheap psu so they tend to inflate what's needed to cover that

Read some of the reviews, take note of the system configurations, check out the power consumption pages and relax
With a basic system as long as you choose a good quality power supply you can run and overclock it without having worry that the reccomended minimum wattage isn't enough
