Intel i5 vs i7

what is best suited for a math major entering grad school?

    Could you give us some more information on what you may be doing on the system besides any school work?

    Unless you are running intensive programs I think the i5 might be more suited for your purposes. Cheaper as well which is great being a student.
  2. Core i5 is currently the sweet spot in terms of CPUS. Core i7 is more expensive, a bit more powerful, but can be crushed by the i5 if the i5 is overclocked. Plus it will save you some money :)
