I've been working for a long time building the perfect sub-$850 build for my gaming needs, and recently I've run into a bit of a speed bump. I am debating between the radeon 6850 models of these three companies: HIS, XFX, and Gigabyte. One thing that also keeps eating at the back of my mind is the look of the cards , even though this obviously is not what I should base my purchases on, I have a clear side case and I like my parts to look pretty
What I run: I'm looking at an AMD 1090t black edition processor (if i can find one sub- $170, or a slightly lower/equivalent cpu), I play MW3, BF3, and other fps games mostly. Still looking for a mobo.
Now, from what I've read, XFX is a solid brand with a great warranty, it is the cheapest of the brands at $135. I could possibly get a better cpu with this card
I've read that HIS tends to run a bit smoother than XFX, but, being that they are the same card, I can't figure out why brand makes a difference. This card is $5 more than the XFX at $140, and I was wondering if this would be a better buy. I haven't seen too much on customer service with this brand.
Being the most expensive of the three 6850s at $150, I look at this card simply for looks. It would look VERY nice with my blue LEDs. However, I am mostly adding this card so that I can ask if the $15 price rise from the XFX is really worth it. It has 2 fans instead of one, which might let it run cooler, but is it louder?
Extra thought- HIS 5770 Ice-Q Turbo X:
This card looks great, and runs quiet and cool. However I don't know how much of a performance drop it is from the 6850. I would only be looking into this card if the $128 price tag would be worth getting a better processor. I know the XFX is only $135, but would it be worth getting a quieter and cooler card?
