Hello,

I want to build a configuration for a friend with a budget somewhere around 5-600euro. This is what I have until now:

Hard disk Samsung 1 TB SATA-II 7200RPM 32MB rpm Spinpoint F3
Corsair XMS3 rev. A 8GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 Dual Channel kit
DVD-Writer Samsung SH-222AB
Inter-Tech SL-700 700W
Case Segotep SG-631R Red
MB ASRock 970 Extreme3
AMD FX-6100 3.3GHz box // might want the eight core, though I don't think it will be that much of a difference in performance. (any ideas?)

And finally the gpus that I have to choose between:

Sapphire Radeon HD6850 2GB DDR5 256-bit
and
MSI Radeon HD6850 OC 1GB DDR5 256-bit

The first one has 1gb more of ram, which is good, for a measly 19euros more, but the 2nd one has a higher frequency that it runs on. The Processor runs at 820Mhz instead of 775Mhz and the memory frequency runs at 4400Mhz instead of 4000Mhz.

Also, this PC won't have a monitor bigger than 1920x1080. And yes, it will be used for gaming.

get the OC one since the 2 gb will not ever be used at 1920x1080. Also I would suggest against the FX6100 as a phenom II will out perform it a lot.

Get a fast phenom II x4 and OC it, it will be a lot better in games.

because the new FX processors aren't the best and also you don't need 6 cores in games now and in the foreseeable future so a fast 4 core is the best option.

the FX are ussually about 10-20% slower than the phenoms with the same cores and frequencies.

Thank you a lot for the quick replies! Just noticed that this one can be unlocked in an x6 as well, so that's even better :D

Thanks again.

the 960t that unlocks is also a good choice but the 970 can probably OC higher and thus better in gaming.

generally you won't need 6 cores in gaming but unlocking them is always a nice benefit in other games.
