I know plextor has burnproof, but does the yamaha 16x have anything like it? I like the 8megs on the Yamaha but if it dont have anything to help avoid errors i'll go with plextor.

AFAIK, the Yamaha just has a huge 8MB buffer. It reduces the chance of a buffer underrun, but it doesn't have anything like 'burn-proof'. I plan on getting a Plextor 16x within the next few months.

The Plextor is the winner here. Burnproof virtually guarantees no coasters.

I have the Yamaha and although it is a good enough unit if the Plextor had been available I would have gotten it for 2 reasons; burnproof and the plextor has true 16x edge to edge capability where the yamaha uses a different routine that yields mostly 12x perfomance

The good thing about the 20x Yamaha burner that is coming out is not so much the speed of it, but that it has an 8mb buffer and burn-proof.. best of both worlds if you ask me. Actually its not the same burn-proof that plextor and other companies are using, its yamaha's version called safe-burn but it works the same way as burn-proof.
