Alright so i am about to make a new build and the hardest part come in when i have to pick the video card that i am going to go with. I was thinking of going with a hd 6950. U know the one that come with the dual bios switch. So i can unlock it to be a hd 6970. Just tell me its a good idea or not and maybe later on i will install another video card and run it in crossfire. But then again AMD is going to release the HD 7950 soon so i am getting confused what i should do.

Ps- i am going to be running a 23 inch 1920 x 1080 monitor

so help

The Dual BIOS feature is NOT a 6970 unlock, and I hear that this card doesn't unlock at all: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1626192
Even those 6950s that do unlock often don't run reliably. You may be lucky, but you may just end up with a shaky, useless card. I wouldn't risk it.

How much are you willing to spend?

Actually i was going to buy the Diamond Hd 6950. I saw that it was really cheap on newegg for about $239 without shipping. It also has a bios switch so i can flash it to hd 6970 but sadly there are no more in stock. It says AUTO NOTIFY. Good deals dont last long i guess

Listen. BIOS switch does not equal 6970 flashing. You can attempt 6970 flashing without a switch, and it's no more likely to work with one. It may work, and it may not. Personally, I wouldn't gamble.

Did Amd locked the cards or something but i was just saying because the reviews also said so. The last review on Newegg is from 1/21/2012

Some cards are locked; that one apparently is not. It's still not a sure thing, though. Some 6950s will be 6970s in which the disabled portions of the card are defective. This is a legitimate business strategy that Tom's recognized in its 560 Ti 448 review.
