Wrong adapter

my monitor uses vga and my graphics card uses dvi-d

can i get a vga-dvi-i adapter and connect it to a dvi-i-dvi-d adapter and then connect it to my graphics card?

Why not go straight from dvi-d to vga:

Your video card should have included one or two.
