Use 2nd router as a switch

I am currently using a Thomson SpeedTouch ST780WLT router, which is working perfectly. (I have no idea if you've even heard of this model in America, but whatever).

I've got a second router currently not in use, a Linksys WRT54GC, that I want to set up as a simple switch to extend my network by a few ports.

However I cannot get this to work, no matter what I do (yes, I've read the Ultimate Setup Thread).

I connect the Linksys to my main router using LAN-LAN. Then I set up the linksys to have the IP (my main router's IP is and DNS to etc.

I've turned off both DHCP and WLAN on the linksys, to use it as a simple lan switch.

What am I doing wrong?

  1. switches dont need IP's as they are transparent.

make sure you have plugged the cable into linksys's LAN port.
  2. Hi,

Refer to Cascading a Router(Same subnet) in the thread below, that should sort it out for you.
