you would also need a pcie3 gpu. if you stick in a pcie2 gpu then it will switch to pcie2 speed.

PCIe 3.0 show no speed increase in single GPU mode below 3 monitor set-up. Tomshardware ran test about that as several other website and even a 680gtx in 2560x1440p show no speed increase going from 2.0 to 3.0

You need a 2-3-4 GPU set-up to see the difference.

Sadly I can't find anymore the link I had where they tested single GPU then, 2sli,3sli and 4sli. PCIe 3.0 Realy seems to make a difference when you use more GPUs.

if you buy the mb from micro center or a local good computer store all they have to do is toss in a stick of ram and a test sandy bridge cpu and flash the bios for the new ib chips for you. if not when you order the mb make sure they send the mb with the newest bios already on it. most vendor put a bios lable on the mb or mb box to let a user know if the mb has the newest bios on it. if not you have to switch mb to an 7x mb. that has ib bios on it.

You seem to be lost a bit here. You only want PCI-e 3.0 so you can tell your friends you have it? And then, you're going to run the internal graphics anyway?

If you're planning a, "Mid to high end build" then I would not go with 4gb of ram, I would look into 16gb plus. Also, a H61 motherboard isn't remotely close to high end, Z77/Z79 or nothing else if it's a mid-highend gaming build.

Gaming builds also have fast DDR5 based GPU's, I am falling for the 670 FTW, and would recommend it over all. What brand power supply do you have?
