Hello, I was trying to replace my older cpu today with a newer one, however the cpu didnt exactly work, whenever I turned on the computer the standby button on the tower would just stay a solid amber colour, when its supposed to turn blue, it wouldnt even boot up. Basically I put my old one back, which worked but one little snag, now my graphics card which I normally connected my monitor too isnt working properly, it seems to be working as the fan is active etc, but the screen just keeps going into power save. The monitor works fine when i connect it to the normal dell port, but no longer works with my graphics card, it connects to it but then the screen goes into power save mod. Help?
Computer - Dell Inspiron 531
Graphics card - GeForce 8600 GT

Try to reset the BIOS, unplug the PC, pull the CMOS battery for 10-15 seconds, power things up again, see what happens. May also have a jumper on the motherboard to reset the BIOS.

If that does not fix it, go into the BIOS and see if changing the default video manual to PCIe will work.
