I have a amd athlon 64 x2 4200+ with a stock fan, I am going to buy a amd athlon ii x2 250 (OEM) and I want to know if the stock heatsink/fan would world on the new processor or if I need to buy a new fan.

i don't think amd has changed the heat sink design in a decade, so yes............ will that processor work on your board ?

Yes, it will work in my board. my board is compatible with am2, am2+ and am3.
