Hi,

I currently have a Dell Studio 1535, it is 3 years old and physically and literall falling apart hehe. It still runs, barely, the new game I play.... Star Wars TOR. It is almost impossible to play the game as the frame rate is so slow. It has a Radeon 3450 GPU.

Now, because of the laptops physical issues, I have ruled out upgrades, and am pricing a new laptop, or actually refurbished, thru dell. Several different laptops look good to me, but my questions all have to do with the GPU.

Most the 14-15" laptops, dell and alienware, have either the 525m or the 555m for Alienware. Also, the 17" dells I see have the 550m. So can anyone tell me if there is a great advantage to either of those cards which would make one choice a better choice for me? Looking thru Dells Outlet shop, the prices arent too far off from one another, so essentially I would prefer the one with the best GPU, that will play Star Wars the best.

I appreciate any and all advice, and thank you for your time and knowledge!

Bill

I would go with the laptop that has the 555M. It will perform much better than the 525M.

555M Specs vs 525M Specs
Both have 96 CUDA Cores
Both have 128 bit Memory Interface
50.2 GBps Memory bandwidth vs 28.8 GBps memry bandwidth
GDDR5 vs GDDR3
1506Mhz GPU Clock vs 1200Mhz
1569 Memory Clock vs 900Mhz Memory Clock

The 555M (on paper) should perform roughly 70-100% better than the 520M

If there is almost no difference in price then definitely go for the 555M. NO question.

Here are some references if you need any other specs
