Windows 8 Upgrade - Questions

OK guys, im still using XP on my desktop and am interested in the upgrade to Windows 8 for 25 UKP. Iv been doing a bit of research and have found out some stuff about it, but i still have many questions. Im having difficulty on the Microsoft website finding the answers I need, there pages seem to only whitter on endlessly about the great shiny new Start page, without telling about the stuff i really wanna know

First, my understanding is that I have to install XP, then run the upgrade package. This sounds a bit clunky to me? Does this actually end with a nice clean Windows 8 install? surely theres going to be crappy bits of XP still floating about??

Second, if I want to do a re-install, will i be able to? or am i going to be charged another 25 quid for the upgrade part?

Third, do I get a Windows 8 Key? (i suppose this is an extension of the previous question)

Fourthly, if i buy the upgrade via download, will I be able to burn the download to a DVD for further use later?

My understanding is the upgrade does not include Media Centre, how much extra will this cost me?

I only had the windows 8 preview on my computer and it still installed fine, I would try it without installing XP. Also you do get a Windows 8 key, When you purchase W8 the key will be sent to your email address. When you go to download it you will get an option to install on a DVD or USB thumb drive in addition to installing it now, I would recommend burning it to disk. Also you get media center for free until the last day of this month with W8 purchase. You can go to add features to windows 8 to get the Media Center download.

No. The Windows 8 Upgrade license replaces the previous Windows 7 (or Windows Vista or Windows XP) license.

To be clear: your old version of Windows that you upgraded from can no longer be used on your current, or any other, computer.

1. Hi, I think you can do it without uninstalling. many people from a forum from my country have done it this way. when I installed windwos 8 I deleted all the partitions, and then installed it.

2. Yes, you can, just put your USB or burnt dvd and you will be able to. If it asks you to validate again and it says your key is already used, just insert your dvd or usb and run it (in windows). a window will appear asking if you want to update, click yes, it will take like 10m, then it will restart and it will be validated.

3. yes, you will receive one in your email.
