Hi guys,

currently I have the following items:

1-CPU I7 3930K
2-CPU cooler Zalman cnps12x

I want some suggestion about other parts:

1- motherboard

2-RAMs

3-graphics card GTX680 or 7979? which brand is the best?

4- best SSD in term of real life speed and long life."preferred 256GB or so"

5-power supply?

1. Asus Rampage IV extreme if you're looking to overclock or the P9X79 Deluxe

2. 2 sets of 16GB Mushkin Redline PC-21333 (9-11-10-28) totaling 32GB. I'm currently running this just fine on my Rampage IV Extreme out of the box with the XMP profiles

3. GTX680 if you play mainstream games and want top performance, 7970 if you play really demanding games such as Metro 2033 or want top image quality. 7970 has a huge edge in compute power while the 680 has PhysX (please note that running PhysX and graphics on the same GPU will destroy performance, so you will probably want either SLI 680s or an older NVidia card to handle PhysX)

4. Mushkin Chronos Deluxe

5. Seasonic 1250 watt PSU

1. ASUS Sabertooth
2. 1866 or 2133 Muskin, Crucial, G.SKILL
3. 680 hands down.
4. Crucial or Samsung 830 will be good
5. SLI or no?

Also, for the cooler, I like the Noctua D14.. I MAY be biased though.. :)

Get the SLI GTX680, the 7970s are more expensive and not as powerful

Here is a link to my build. There is an excel sheet that list the items used, the cost at the time and the vendor I used to purchase each item. It is a similar setup to what you will be building. There are also 3 pics of the system. http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=691556

Pics can be seen here as well at the bottom of this forum chain http://www.overclock.net/t/1198936/lga-2011-new-build-help-suggestions

You will need to make some decisions on what you want and how much you want to spend for all the greatest and latest. My build is an 8k system to give you a form of measure. You are running in the range of 5K if you are going the Tri-SLI route on your system - minus the watercooling. There are a lot of smaller items people tend to forget that will add up like fans, power connectors, cables, screws etc.

MOBO:
I like to tweak my system, so I absolutely love the ASUS Extreme Rampage IV flexibility and modifiability in Mobo's. But there are so many great boards out there.

PSU:
For PSU Power you can use this calculator ..it gives you a pretty good estimate after you enter your system components you intend to use. http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

Remember when choosing a PSU you want to add some power so it operates in that sweetspot and not be stressed. Kind-of like a car where you will not be driving it at full speed all the time... otherwise you will kill the engine, well the same principle applies to a PSU.

The PSU I used in my system is the Enermax 1350w. This PSU is modular and can fully support 1600W though it is not rated as such but it has been stress tested at 1600W by many in the business online. It has a lot of future proof room as well. Keep in mind this is specific to my custom build.

GPU:
Note that the memory is less on the 680 than the 580. If possible I would hold out for the third version release of the 680 later this year. The real 680 (full power card) has not been released yet. Partly due to the hype of the 79XX that was short lived. Don't get me wrong either card is still not a bad choice though. At the moment the GTX is better with its unmatched CUDA technology.

RAM
I personally like Corsair and G.Skill for RAM in todays market. You can't go wrong with these guys.

SSD: view the benchmarks in links below.
OCZ SSD has been up there when it comes to great SSD's as well as Intel. Here is one of the sites I use that has been pretty much on the money when it comes to benchmarking.
http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/high_end_drives.html

You can choose what is your top priority category here if needed on the various tabs http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/

Hope this helps...

im confused with SSD since i heard many issue with sandforce chip , correct me if im wrong?

do you suggest any ssd raids?

there is no specific budget since this pc should last at less 4-5 years

mainly for gaming and application "video editing ,etc"

Why not build something like this with the i7 3890k? or is essential that you have a i73930k? if not look at this or simply swamp the cpu

I used the ASUS P9X79Pro MB with Crucial 32G Ram, I7-3820 CPU, ASUS H7770 Video and Ultra 750w, went to liquid cooling and lots of fans to assist, runs fast, strong and there is no need to overclock for photo and video editing.
Good Luck

First i would go with M4 it's one of the best in the market right now or you can go with a Samsung 830 very top quality both of them as far as i know, any other like Corsair, Vertez, Patriot reviews wise they come very faulty. So defenetly you can go with M4 or Samsung.

Sorry just saw the Ram question and i would say long gone are the days which you wouls pick speed (Mhz) over CL... Now days i would go with a balance something like Latency 9 and 1600 frequency is perfect. Anything below Latency 10, and between 9 and 8 you wont notice that much of a difference.

Both speed and latency is important but the lower the latency the better. Voltage also plays an important role as well. The lower the better... Also gives you more room to overclock if needed depending on your system build.

SSD you do not want to setup in raid 1 unless you plan to replace them often. SSDs you can raid 0 to extend storage. Constant rewrites to SSD will shorten the life span. Personally, I would just install the OS on an SSD and install updates once a month for drivers etc. to extend the life of the SSD. Use regular drives like WD raptors for non-OS data is my recommendation. Nothing wrong with raiding SSD's you will just have to replace them quicker which you may not want and they are kinda expensive at the moment.

as the above posts states ssds tend to wear with constant rewrite.

it also gets slow after a few weeks time and this is been rectified by TRIM.

TRIM tries to keep the speed of the ssds at the maximum value of when it is new and unused state.

but the problem of TRIM is that it is not supported in any raid.

but intel has anounced to remove a raid TRIM driver for intel based ssds.

ypur best bet for raid ssd is to get intel ssd and update the drivers to get the raid TRIM support on the ssd.

but i ssd is enough and you wont notice a huge difference for normal launches for 2 ssd in raid 0.

the difference is seen only when you do video editing or opening photoshop or sometimes loadings. but a single ssd will do.

besides a single ssd whould give more gbs for buck as compares to 2 small ssd.

beware every RAID setup has a inherent defect and a problem.

for more information on raid ssd and any other storage read ou the sticky in the storage section of toms hardware forums.

hope this helps :hello:
