Looking for an upgrade over my Powercolor 6670 2gb

Hi,

I have a powercolor 6670 2gb graphics card and i was looking for a suitable upgrade.

Would a Gicabyte Radeon HD 6950 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 give me more fps?

I could always overlock it to a 6970.

And also would a 2gb 6950 be alot better than the 1gb 6950?

Yes it would increase performance by a lot. More VRAM helps for higher resolution and more AA, so it depends on what resolution you play at.

If you're at 1920x1080 or lower, there's no reason to get more than 1gb. If you're on more than one monitor, go for the 2gb.

Unlocking a 6950 to a 6970 (different from overclocking; don't confuse them) is often successful but sometimes leaves you with an unreliable card. Also, some manufacturers have caught on and have made it physically impossible to do the unlock by adjusting the circuits. It's not a sure thing.

The 6950 would definitely give you a big boost, assuming you have a processor that can handle it and 4gb+ of RAM. What are your full specs?

2gb is a waste but you have to get a 2 gb version to flash to a 6970 and you have to know which cards unlock exactly before buying.
