which 256Meg RIMM is best?
My company has standardized on intel stuff.
The IS department is looking at P4 1.7 gig chips with 850 chipset.
They alway call the system a "BOX".
They dont seem to take interest in the hardware and they have asked me for some input.
Any P4 suggestions
Mobo, heatsink, power supply, rimms
thank you for your time and have a good day

I say Prove it!

Well tell them to wait on the "northwood" P4. It will use cheaper and Faster SDRAM DIMM.

P4 2.0ghz+i845+1gb pc100+Radeon2= Dream  Team =palomino 1.5ghz+256mb pc2100+Magik1+radeon 32mb

Just make sure they are PC800. That's the only requirement. You can safely ignore the SDRAM suggestion. It would cut performance by about 80%.

The best mainboard for the 850 right now would be the Abit TH7-RAID for about $170-$180.

According to benchmarks the Asus board is best. I haven't seen benchmarks on any Abit P4 motherboards though. Anyway this thread is about memory modules ;)
