XFX Radeon HD 6870: Screen randomly goes black.

About two weeks ago I built a gaming computer using the [ XFX Double D HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 ] as my graphics card. Its been great so far, but a few times a day. the screen randomly goes black for a few seconds. This could be while I'm playing a game, writing in openoffice, or just using my browser. I'm currently using Windows XP. When this happens only the screen stops, and I can still hear sound. Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening? Its not too big of a deal. Only a minor annoyance every now and then. But could this be signs of a hardware problem? Here's what my system is composed of:

[Motherboard]: ASUS M5A99X EVO

More about radeon 6870 screen randomly black
  1. Im having the same problem only with a Sapphire Flex Radeon HD 6870, anybody know whats causing it?

    My build:

    Asus Crosshair IV Mobo

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Thuban CPU

    G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB RAM

    Enermax Galaxy 1000w PSU

Sapphire Radeon HD6870 Flex Edition GPU

    Any thoughts would help...
  2. I replaced my DVI cable and now all is well. If your having this problem try changing the cable it might save you some money. :)
  3. I set the GPU clock in Vision control center to 950 Mhz instead of 900. That has seemed to solve it so far.
