Can anyone provide some tips to hit better? I'm getting the timing
thing down, and directing the ball, except I can't get a read from the
pitcher if it the pitch will be in the strike zone. I end up swinging
at balls head high or in the dirt. This isn't a problem when playing
the computer as they throw way more strikes--but when I play my
roomate, we have 1-0 games...with the winning run scoring on a mistake
made by the other player.

Please, any tips will be appreciated.

you might want to read the manual again. it explains a lot about
"hitter's eye." when the pitcher releases the ball, you'll see a quick
spot of color on the ball - red, blue, or green (i think).

i forget what you have to press, but if you click the right thumbstick
while batting, you'll see which pitches your player is geared for
identifying best.

if this is wrong, please, anyone... correct me.

the other thing to do, is consider which pitch YOU would throw in the
same situation. for example, if there's 2 outs with 2 strikes, the
pitcher might likely throw an outside leading pitch like a slider. i
think trying to read another player is about learning how they think
with the progression of innings. i know if you play on the MVP level
and you throw too many fastballs to start, the computer destroys almost
every fastball thereafter.

another thing to consider is whether your batter is a left hitter or
right, and whether the pitcher is throwing left or right. i find when
playing a live person, i usually step in against pitchers who throw
opposite my stance.

hope this helps!

Thanks for those tips. Sadly, I don't have an instruction
booklet...I'm just renting it w/ the game pass from Blockbuster. I
can usually tell what kind of pitch it will be via the hitters eye,
but my problem is that I can't tell if the pitch will land in the
strike zone or almost hit me...so I just swing and hope that it lands
somewhere my hitter can get the bat on it.

i hear you. often times, the breaking pitches will *snap* at the last
possible second and hit outside the zone, making me swing and making me
crazy.

on the MVP difficulty, this is more prominent and almost every game
ends up 1-0 with the run being a homer in the last or 11th inning.

after replying to your post, i decided last night to play it on Pro
level just to see what it was like. i played three games. there was no
surprise *snapping,* every pitch seemed logical and fair, and the
scores were very balanced (11-6, 5-4, 6-3). i won every game, but it
was actually a lot more tense and more fun on the Pro level. so far
i've completed a All-Star season and i'm halfway through an MVP season
(and i'm getting my butt whooped!). i have to say, the Pro level was
the most fun so far.

anyhow, hope it works out!
