Resistor's come in all sizes and are used on circuit boards and watts are applied and depending on the size of the resistor and how much power or wattage is applied. The out come will always be less then what was put in.

Wattage in a resistor is the amount of power it can safely dissipate (handle). In other words, a resistor is designed to "waste" power. A 1/2 watt resistor, for instance, is designed to dissipate (or waste) 1/2 watt. This can be easily calculated if you know the current through the resistor.
