Looking for a $600 dollar system to build, general use and large (non video) files for Photoshop. I hardly do ANY gaming anymore, but it would be nice if I could play that Star Wars MMO.

Here is the barebones I am considering:

Then I would need a Graphics card, and... what else?

The barebone kits are a bit overpriced. I suggest building one instead. More fun, and cheaper too.

Cheaper than $339 after rebate?

Decent 6 core processor and 8GB of ram?

Suggestions?

Price the same parts on newegg, youll find its about the same. Tiger will send you a really cheap crappy case with a cheaper, crappier powersupply. Dont forget to add the $30 shipping tiger will charge too. You might spend a hair more piecing it together yourself but then you can pick a decent power supply at least..The cpu is $150 on Newegg

You are wasting $ on 6-core processor for gaming. Games only use 2-3 cores.

He could get good performance by using i3-2120 with HT and still nt be overkill for SWTOR or w/e.

Thanks for the replies... I understand I don't NEED a 6 core system, but will it help with multitasking? I run two monitors and like I have one running Photoshop and another running a video (watching movies while I work!)

the multiple monitors is more the video card than the CPU,

that said, for $600, you will probly do better with an intel quad core. Let me play with newegg for a bit.

hey I appreciate that, but the difference in motherboards alone is worth it to go with the barebones kit.

HOWEVER I am interested to know about the difference in Processors, is one better than the other?
April 8, 2012 2:36:00 PM

I meant difference in HARDDRIVES alone. I am a photographer and fill a terabyte REALLY fast!
April 8, 2012 2:48:26 PM

to answer both: the quad core 2400 blows away the phenom ii 1045, but I included only a $500 GB drive, 1/3 the size of the barebone's kit.

and whats wrong with the H61?
