Can anyone tell me from first hand experience how well the 7970 along with an i5 2500k works with three monitor Eyefinity in landscape? I want to get one card to run eyefinity because I don't want to mess with crossfire issues. The alternatives I'm looking at are a 6990 (apparently very noisy) or a 7990 (have to wait months to get one).

I use a single 6970 2gb @4800x1200. It plays any game on at least medium settings but mostly on high. I use at least 4xMSAA and 4xAF in everything. Games like WoW go to ultra. Games like BF3 go at medium to high.

Your 7970 obviously blows away my 6970 and as such will do very well by itself. Obviously it won't do ultra in the latest demanding games but you'll have no trouble getting smooth fps with some reduced settings.

A 6990 is crossfire so...

Anyway I was using a pair of 5850s with 5760x1080 (I think it was actually 5820 or something with bezel compensation) and BF3 played fine at medium settings. A 7970 should be a bit faster plus it has a lot more VRAM.

The most noticeable thing would be textures, but you'll have the VRAM to pump those at Ultra. Otherwise the main differences are shadows and SSAO. Shadows are barely different, they just get a little softer. SSAO makes the biggest change. Other stuff like terrain detail and object detail you can probably run at higher settings because they aren't super intensive.

Google the Nvidia tweak guide for BF3 and you'll find a lot of great info on how the settings affect graphics as well as the performance hit.
