Hello:

I'm in quite in a pickle. This just stated 4 days ago. I was playing The witcher 2 then after game exit and going to desktop screen went black. The pc stayed on. So i rebooted and got the bios screen, windows login screen and a few second when the desktop loaded went again to a black screen. I have my pc connected to my tv through a HDMI, so I decided to change it to my monitor through a DVI, did same thing.

After checking connections, cleaned inside of dust, loaded and went into safe mode, it worked fine but when I went to windows it logged on on desktop then again went black. Then I decide to re install windows, got the install screen, did some update and again it went black. Since my motherboard was kinda old DDR2, I bought a new AM3+ MB, with new DDR3 ram, after again installing windows screen goes black. I cannot do any tests b/c when it goes to desktop screen goes black.

I've been reading about this for the past day but no case seems like mine ! :( Anyone has any idea why this is happening.

My current system is:

AMD Phenon II 955 3.2
ASUS MB M5A97 AM3+
PNY DDR3 PC3-10666 timing 9-9-9-24 1.5v
POWERCOLOR AMD 6850 core 775
PS ULTRA X3 600w
WD Caviar Black 640 GB

PS: my system been working fine for the past 4 years, except one of my ram stick went back a few weeks ago

Uh have u thought it could be a Faulty Graphics card. I mean you went and got new parts and still same issue?. obviously your computer has unfinished business to take card of. try a new video card if you can

I just checked the power requirements for the 8800GT and the 6850. The 8800GT has a minimum 400W requirement and the 6850 has a 500W minimum requirement. It's also possible your PSU is going bad, which would explain why it can power the 8800GT but not the 6850. In general, I wouldn't recommend an Ultra PSU to anyone. I recommend getting a PSU from a top notch brand like this just to be safe:

SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze 520W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply $59.99

Ok, I have another PSU that I can use from a friend. Which is working and its 630w. I will try with this one if 6850 works with this we will know that its my PSU if it still goes out I guess RMA 6580.

Thanks all for the help

I tried my 6580 on my friends pc which he had a 8800GTX and 6850 will not even start. BIOS will blink but black screen, tried my 8800gt on his machine working fine. Does this mean a bad video card?
