That's pretty dependant on what games and what monitor / resolution you are going to use. For mid-range 1080p gaming / video it should be OK as long as you don't max out the details. Now a massively multi-player game like MW3 would probably bog down as more players join the raid...
thanks for replying. i only use resolutions of 1440 by 900 or lower. is there hope with my monitor?
and another note ,right now i have a pentium d 945 3ghz with the same graphics card. while i play Assassins Creed 2, i get unusual frame rates. its not lag but its more inconsistent, about every 2-3 seconds there's a big frame rate drop then the rest of the time i get smooth gameplay. this happens on every single resolution and it doesnt matter what the graphics settings are on. for example i could play on 800 by 600 with graphics on low, but it will have the exact same lag as 1680 by 1050 and graphics on highest. i read somewhere that this is evidence of a CPU bottleneck. is this true?
thats the processor that i am thinking of upgrading to. right now i have a Intel Pentium D 945 3GHz. i did the system requirements test and it said i passed the minimum requirements of Assassins Creed 2.
As i have a LGA775 socket i know there isnt much i can upgrade to. so anything that will just boost performance generaly. i looked at the dell spec sheet and it said the mobo supported intel core 2 duo e6000 series. thats why i was thinking about upgrading to the intel core 2 duo e6850
